Top 10 Networking tips from successful net workers and networking event organizers

  1. Always turn up early if you can, there will be less people there and depending on the room size, it will be easy to get your message across to small groups rather than when the room is full. It ensures people will come over to you rather than the other way round."Remember first in best dressed"

  2. I know its an old cliche, but remember your business cards, you may have a fantastic business (of course you have!) but there is nothing more off putting that the classic line "I'm sorry I forgot to bring my business cards"

  3. Appearance, casual is fine but don't come scruffy, what does that say to a potential customer? I'm sure some of the more arty professions will disagree with us here but in our book "first impressions last"

  4. Unless you are asked first what you do by somebody, please show a genuine interest in the other persons business and try and find out as much as possible about it before judging them as not of any use, they may be but who do they know that is useful to you and your business? Only after they have finished or they ask you directly should you tell them about your amazing business!

  5. If you already know someone in the room and you're not sure who to talk to, then have a word with them first, they may have already spoken to someone who may be of interest to your business.

  6. Never "butt in" to some one else's conversation unless invited. This is a very common occurrence at networking meetings and infuriates most people as it is just down right bloody RUDE!!!

  7. If you're new to networking, listen rather than speak at first. Its a great way to learn what to say and just as importantly not what to say!

  8. Wherever possible, ensure you know exactly how you will sell your services and products. Keep things as simple as possible. This will always prompt for questions from the listener(s) as people in business are always inquisitive.

  9. If you are told something important by a new contact, wherever possible, write it down on the back of there business card asap. This will act as a timely reminder when you contact them by following up not only that lead, but all the leads, with either an e-mail or a phone call that could help you bring in that extra revenue.

  10. Always listen for "anchors", this is where someone says something that you know you can help them with and when its your turn to speak, you can say something like "you mentioned VAT problems before, my company has a specialist team that deals only in VAT problems for all businesses, could you explain in more detail so I fully understand the situation and how we can best help you"

Building Better Bridges: Networking For Personal Productivity

Mistakenly, networking is sometimes viewed or approached as selling, aggressive, simply passing out business cards, or used solely for personal gain. However, the true spirit of networking involves getting to know people and developing relationships, giving without obligation, and exchanging business cards when there is a reason to stay in touch, such as a mutual interest or information or resources to be shared.

Why the emphasis on networking? In case you arent already convinced through your own experiences or that of other people you know, the following statistics underscore the importance of effective networking:

A referral generates 80 percent more results than a cold call;

Approximately 70 percent of all jobs are found through networking; and

Most people you meet have at least 250 contacts.

And while these facts are reason enough to focus on improving ones networking skills, there are other benefits of networking too. Among them, networking can enrich your life, providing new experiences and knowledge.

One of the best ways to get started is to consider what you have to offer to the people in your network, such as special skills, information, experience, or knowledge, followed by asking yourself what you might need help with. Networking begins with listening and sharingpeople helping each other to achieve their respective goals. Little things as simple as clipping an interesting article,

sharing a useful website link, or answering a question in your area of expertise are all ways to add value to the people in your network. These things show people you care, help build relationships, and establish rapport and trust so that when you need help it will be there for you.

Remember, networking can be very rewarding, not only in terms of business outcomes, saved time, and valuable information, but also in personal satisfaction because it involves helping others reach their goals. And thats a great feeling!

From Ordinary To Extra Ordinary Through Internet Networking

Entrepreneurs around the world are tapping into the endless resources that freely flow through Internet networking communities. These communities are made up of enterprising women and men who are seeking to discover new and innovative techniques of establishing business relationships, building a client base, and gaining increased exposure globally. Through e-mail lists and electronic bulletin boards sponsored by such communities, entrepreneurs can not only establish these viable contacts; they can also share Internet resources to assist fellow members within the communities in just about every aspect of business start up and operation.

As a veteran in the ever-growing popularity of Internet networking, I envision four distinctive elements that are inevitably sought after from true networkers across the world.

1. A VAT OF INFORMATION
The Internet offers a vat of information to entrepreneurs. However, knowing what you need to know and where to find it can propose many challenges. Through effective networking, entrepreneurs share their knowledge and resources in an effort to help each other keep up with information that may be pertinent, as well as useful, in growing their businesses.

2. PARTNERING THROUGH SUPPORT
Often times the isolation of working alone limits our creativity and abilities, as well as our potential growth. Through Internet community networking, entrepreneurs are able to establish partnerships wherein they share various components of services that will allow them to take on projects they may otherwise feel forced to turn down. Reasons they turn down opportunities may be a result of time restraints or a lack of knowledge in specific areas or

aspects of a project.

3. INCREASED EXPOSURE
Through sharing your expertise and knowledge within your Internet networking community, you earn trust and recognition among your peers. Your participation serves as your initial means of gaining exposure and becoming better established as an expert in your field.

4. ENDLESS REFERRALS
Once your fellow networkers come to know and trust you, you will begin to experience the fruits of your networking efforts. Not only will your peers be more apt to utilize your services; they will be quick to refer others to you. This generates a cycle of word-of-mouth advertising that will contribute more to your growth than high dollar advertising.

Networking through Internet communities offers a sense of reassurance in that it bridges the gap by providing resources to the entrepreneur that may not otherwise be readily available or easily accessible. As your networking experiences begin to produce growth for your business, it is important that you remain an intricate part of the group and give back as frequently as you can. As an active networker, you can turn an ordinary business venture into an extraordinary success!
